The Geodetic Database and Bahrain's GPS Earth Station

The Directorate of Surveying supervises Bahrain's Geodetic Network, which consists of 3700 main horizontal control survey stations, 20515 substations, and 2495 vertical control survey stations distributed all over the Kingdom. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to enhance the main and sub-networks. These stations are highly beneficial in applications requiring a great deal of precision in data gathering, and provide very accurate geographical information about Bahrain. These stations also facilitate the conducting of survey operations and map production.

In 2006, the SLRB installed a number of new main and sub-stations, classified into:

·          50 main survey stations for horizontal control.

·          260 main survey stations for vertical control.

·          715 substations for horizontal control.
