The Horizontal Control Network

The Geodetic Survey Section is responsible for setting up and updating the major control-point network that measures Earth's curvature along the geography of Bahrain. The measurements obtained from the network markers help in the development and updating of digital Topographic maps. Following a field survey, all data and statistics are fed into the SLRB database to draw maps. Furthermore, local control stations and elevation markers provide accurate details that increase the value of Topographic precision in maps.

The horizontal control network was first set up between 1976-77 with 22 main points and 50 substations – which were distributed after proper trigonometric processes and passive surveys. The passive surveys lead to the installation of 87 partial substations. The number of reference markers jumped to 3000 in 1978 installed by the Field Survey Unit.
